Google is testing shading and including colour and depth to favicons that they show within the search outcome snippets. This was noticed a while in the past however it appears to be extra broadly being examined now, together with the shading experiment.

John Mueller of Google did reply to this on Mastodon saying to Glenn Gabe, “I like when the favicons look good cropped spherical – these experiments are attention-grabbing to see, thanks for flagging them.”
